FAIRMONT - Memorial service for Joanne E. Veeck-Saxton, 89, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. today, Dec. 22, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, with Pastor Richard Abel officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service today at Lakeview Funeral Home.

Joanne passed away Friday morning, Dec. 21, 2012, at the Mayo Clinic Health System-Fairmont.

Joanne Emily Grewe Veeck-Saxton was born April 15, 1923, in Madelia, Minn., the daughter of Louis and Alma (Wilde) Grewe. She was baptized at St. John's United Church of Christ in Fairmont and attended Lincoln Elementary School. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1940 and the University of Minnesota in 1945. Joanne attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City in the summer of 1945. She majored in Piano and Voice and minored in English and Psychology. She taught piano lessons for 62 years and taught music at the Brainerd Community College. She played for several churches, resorts, and concerts in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Joanne was united in marriage to William L. Veeck on June 15, 1947, and they had two children, Eric and Leslie. William passed away in 1991. On Dec. 16, 1995, she married Neil Saxton and they made their home in Fairmont. Neil passed away in 2005.

Joanne was an avid reader, enjoyed embroidery and, of course, had a passion for music.

She is survived by one son, Eric W. Veeck of Backus, Minn.; one daughter, Leslie J. Boughton of St. Augustine, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Ingrid Veeck of Champlin, Minn.; four grandchildren, William Boughton (Susan) of Jacksonville, Fla., Patricia Borer (Dan) of St. Michael, Minn., Tracy Pajunen (Tom) of Champlin, Minn., Cory Veeck (Becky) of Monticello, Minn.; seven great grandchildren, Jessica and Jacob Borer, Anthony, Andrew and Allison Pajunen, Justyn and Collin Veeck; step great grandson, Zach Tolen; step children, Patricia Reed (Joel) of Camby, Minn., Susan Wittrock of Mankato, Minn., Jean Palmer (John) of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Bart Saxton of Northrop, Minn.; sister-in-law, Hazel Greve of Belle Plaine, Minn.; other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and both her husbands, Joanne was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Grewe.

Memorials are preferred to St. John's United Church of Christ in Fairmont.
