Mavericks run past Bluejays

TRUMAN - The Martin County West Maverick girls basketball team remain unbeaten after defeating the Truman Bluejays, 77-50, in a Valley Conference game on Friday night in Truman.

The Mavericks had 11 different players reach the scoring column including Taryn Tumbleson, who scored 16 points and made eight steals.

Kate Thiesse scored 12 points, pocketed six steals and grabbed eight rebounds for MCW, Reilly Geistfeld scored 11 points, while Morgan Williamson doled out four assists.

The Mavericks shot 12 of 22 from the free throw line and went 28-for-72 from the floor.

Cleo Maloney scored a game-best 18 points to top the Bluejays, with 15 as a result of connecting on five 3-pointers.

Brooke McDonald netted 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Truman, while Emily Zaharia scored 10 points and distributed seven assists.

Truman shot 9 of 22 from the free throw line, and went 18-for-41 from the field.

Martin County West (5-0, 3-0 Valley) travels to Mapleton on Thursday night to play Maple River.

Truman (0-4, 0-1 Valley) travels to St. Clair for a 6 p.m. Valley Conference game on Thursday night.

North Union 62, Graettinger-Terril/ Ruthven-Ayrshire 20 - The Warrior defense held the Titans to just 20 points in a 42-point Corn Belt Conference victory on Friday night in Armstrong.

Cheyanne Boland scored a game-high 17 points to pace the Warriors' winning ways.

Madison Bollig and Aurora Oliver each scored eight points, with Bollig gathering four rebounds and Oliver distributing four assists and pocketing four steals.

Sarah Rolling scored seven points and made six steals for North Union, Dena Looft snagged eight rebounds, while Jasmine Clausen grabbed four boards and doled out four assists.

North Union went 10-for-14 from the charity stripe and shot 23 of 53 from the floor.

Gracie Skattebo led the Titans with eight points.

North Union (4-1) travels to Everly, Iowa, on Tuesday night to play a 6 p.m. game against Clay Central-Everly.

Granada-Huntley-East Chain 55, Cleveland 36 - The Mustangs limited the Clippers to a miniscule 10 second-half points to trigger a 55-36 Valley Conference victory on Friday night in East Chain.

Amanda Cegelske's double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds, along with five steals and five assists, lead the Mustangs' winning effort.

Rachel Shumski tallied a game-high 18 points to help balance the Mustangs' offensive attack, Anna Balcom added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Rachel Sauck doled out four assists.

GHEC went 25 of 80 from the floor and made 4 of 10 free throws in the win.

Taylor Holicky scored 13 points to lead the Clippers, while Kylie Krause added 10.

Granada-Huntley-East Chain 2-3, 2-1 Valley) plays host to Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial in a 7:30 p.m. Valley Conference game at East Chain School.
