FAIRMONT - Mick Sterling is a familiar face for local music lovers, and on Sunday, he'll bring the familiar sounds of Christmas to the Fairmont Opera House ... with a twist.
"At Christmas" is one of Sterling's bands. The Twin Cities musician has his hands in a number of different projects, several of which he has brought to Fairmont: "The Irresistibles" played the blues, with a mix of soul and rock; "Memphis & the Meantimes" focused on favorites of yester-year from the Grand Ol' Opry; and "At Christmas" is plugged as a comedic, heartfelt "theatrical and musical celebration of the holidays."
The show came about four years ago when Sterling put out a Christmas record. Instead of just hosting a release party, he decided to launch it with a live show.
"It's not a big Christmas extravaganza like some other shows, but it is very heartfelt and funny ... and the music is fantastic, I think," Sterling said.
The event coincides with Fairmont Glows, a local kickoff for the holiday season, which begins Friday afternoon with Santa's arrival at the Fairmont airport. "At Christmas" will be a matinee, from 2-4:30 p.m. Sunday.
"I haven't seen a Christmas show like this; it's very unique, very intimate, like we've brought like actors and musicians into your living room. ... We do some really unique interpretations of Christmas songs you know, and we also do some original stuff," Sterling said.
