GRANADA - Services for Charles "Chuck" E.L. Haugen, 85, of Granada, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial with full military honors will follow in Lakeside Cemetery by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and the Martin County VFW Post 1222.
Chuck passed away Friday morning, Nov. 2, 2012, at Lutz Wing Nursing Home in Fairmont. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Charles E.L. Haugen was born Nov. 5, 1926, in Montevideo, Minn., the son of Emil and Louise (Nokleby) Haugen. He grew up in Montevideo. At age 15, Chuck misstated his age and entered the U.S. Navy, where he served during World War II as a tail gunner on a torpedo plane. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Montevideo and was united in marriage to Mary Louise Anderson on Jan. 12, 1947, at Mary's parent's home in Milan. They farmed in rural Montevideo until 1963, when they moved to Fairmont and opened the Western Station and Store. After their retirement from the Western, Chuck worked at Nasby Agri Systems and then Blachowske Trucking, and retired there around 1981. Mary passed away on July 6, 2003.
Those who will cherish his memory include one son, Chuck Haugen and his wife, Peg, of Granada; one daughter, Pat Green and her husband, Bob, of Granada; five grandchildren, Tammy Fritz of Welcome, Rachel Pooley and her husband, J.R., of Fairmont, Brad Haugen and his wife, Tara, of Fairmont, Michele Green of Hopkins, Kyle Green and his wife, Kayla, of Fairmont; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Tollefson of Willmar; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mary, Chuck was preceded in death by a son, Roger; two infant sons; brother, Russell Haugen; and sister, Pearl Silverman.
