Band boosts lives

November 1, 2012
Fairmont Sentinel

To the Editor:

We as Band Boosters are concerned about the potential loss of the elementary music and art programs.

These programs have enhanced the foundation of Fairmont area children for their high school and lifetime careers.

Members of our community have been able to enjoy the marching band at the Memorial Day parade and program, half-time performances, pep band, military sendoffs and area parades representing our community.

Students are also involved in pep bands at various sporting events, the annual musical, Minnesota State High School League solo and ensembles and large group contests and performances, and community concerts.

We've also enjoyed the fruits of their musical instruction at area churches, community events, fund-raisers, Civic Summer Theatre, Fairmont City Band and Red Rock performances.

Former music students represent Fairmont in the world in successful careers as music teachers, composers, performers, actors and theater, and music ministry.

We ask that you vote yes Nov. 6. Without a strong foundation in the elementary school, the high school programs will suffer, as will the city of Fairmont.
