No. 4 with five.
Senior running back Brandon Martin became the fourth Fairmont football player to produce five rushing touchdowns in a single game during the Cardinals' 48-26 sectional quarterfinal victory over Belle Plaine on Tuesday night in Fairmont.
The 220-pound Martin finished the playoff contest with 139 yards on 19 carries.
Martin joined elite company in former Cardinal standouts Jay Katzenmeyer, Mike Wubbena and Richie Haycraft.
The fleet-footed Katzenmeyer made his mark in the red-and-white record books by generating five scores via the ground during the 1992 season.
Katzenmeyer, who rushed for 1,168 yards and 17 TDs on 159 carries during his final prep campaign, helped guide the Jim Simser-coached Cardinals to the state semifinals that season.
The jitter-bugging Wubbena compiled five TDs and a school single-game record 274 rushing yards during a 48-13 Section 3AAA quarterfinal triumph over Redwood Valley on Oct. 25, 2005.
Wubbena closed out his four-year prep football career as Fairmont's all-time leader in total rushing yards (4,088), single-season yards on the ground (1,717) and career all-purpose yardage (5,771).
Haycraft became the third running back in the Cardinals' storied football history to cross the goal line five times via the ground in a single outing.
The hard-nosed Haycraft erupted for five rushing scores and 225 yards during Fairmont's 39-22 Section 3AAA quarterfinal victory over Sibley East on Oct. 27, 2009.
