FAIRMONT - Funeral services for Roland K. Anderst, 89, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont with full military honors by the Schwieger-Kahler American Legion Post 522 and the Martin County VFW Post 1222 at Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont.
Roland passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 18, 2012, at Goldfinch Memory Care Facility in Fairmont. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is handling the arrangements for the family.
Roland Kenneth Anderst was born March 1, 1923, to John and Alma (Bindert) Anderst at Armour, S.D. At age 11, he moved with his parents to rural Fairmont where they farmed. He attended Fairmont High School and then worked as a hired man for Sylvan Kiester. Roland was united in marriage to Dorothy Schwieger on Jan. 6, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. During World War II, he was drafted and served one year in the U.S. Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, Roland and Dorothy worked on the Albert Ziemann farm for five years, then rented the Art Stade farm in Fairmont Township where they farmed for 33 years until retirement. Roland was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Schwieger-Kahler American Legion Post 522 in Northrop.
Those who will cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Anderst of Fairmont; three daughters, Leann Freiburger and her husband, Art, of Orlando, Fla., Marsha Durst and her husband, Ron, of Mantorville, Minn., Cheryl Strande and her husband, Larry, of Rochester, Minn.; three grandchildren, Kristi Freiburger of Orlando, Fla., Elizabeth Kueper (Matt) of Zumbrota, Minn., Jonathan Durst of Eden Prairie, Minn.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Luverna Hartmann, Lois and Don Swenson, Mary Armbrust, Ruth Schwieger, Lynn and Devy Schwieger, all of Fairmont, Eunice and Orland Day of Pinedale, Calif., Marlene and Dan Griffith of Eden Prairie, Doris Schwieger of Truman, Gary and Marian Schwieger of Welcome; nieces, Sheila Conner of West Des Moines, Iowa, Sharon Bendel of Rochester, Minn.; other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Roland was preceded in death by one brother and his wife, Arnold and Arlene Anderst; one sister, Dolores Anderst; parents-in-law, Theodore and Lena Schwieger; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Milton and Erline Schwieger, Delbert Schwieger, James Schwieger, Wilbert Hartmann and Don Armbrust.
