Marcellus T. ‘Rocky’ Nawrocki

FAIRMONT - Mass of Christian Burial for Marcellus T."Rocky" Nawrocki, 81, of Fairmont, Minn., formerly of Granada, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Friday Oct. 19, 2012, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Interment will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Fairmont with military honors provided by Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County VFW Post 1222. Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials preferred to St. John Vianney Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and Loyola High School in Mankato.

Rocky passed away on Saturday morning, Oct. 13, 2012, at Goldfinch Memory Care. Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Marcellus Theodore "Rocky" Nawrocki was born on Nov. 9, 1930, in Silver Lake Township, Minn. He was the son of Michael and Stanislawa (Petrowiak) Nawrocki and attended District 92 School in Silver Lake Township. In January of 1950, Rocky was drafted into the Army serving with the 14th Armored Cavalry until his honorable discharge in September of 1953. On Nov. 10, 1956, Rocky was united in marriage to Mary Patricia Zender at the St. James Catholic Church in St. James, Minn. The couple resided in Fairmont where Rocky owned and operated Rocky's Tavern for three years. Rocky then owned and operated Nawrocki Trucking until his retirement in 1994. The couple was blessed with two children, Barbara and Bradley. Rocky and Mary Pat shared 55 years together. After the couple retired, they enjoyed many years of travel in their motorhome. Rocky was a very active member of Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight, District Deputy and also as Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus. Rocky loved his homestead, playing cards, visiting friends and most importantly spending time with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Mary Pat; daughter, Barbara J. Denney (Jon Seewald) of Fairmont; son, Bradley J. Nawrocki and his wife Bobbi, of Mankato, Minn.; grandchildren, Morgan Lennon and her husband Michael, of North Carolina, Kate Gieseke and her fianc, Terry Smith of Fairmont Minn., Garrett Gieseke of Mankato, Minn., Lucas Denney of Fairmont, Emily Nawrocki, a junior at St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn., and Annie Nawrocki, a junior at Loyola High School, Mankato, Minn.; great grandson, Nolan Smith of Fairmont; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Nawrocki-Thelen of Fairmont; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Along with his parents Michael and Stanislawa Nawrocki, Rocky was preceded in death by his siblings, Theophil Nawrocki and wife Fern, Irene Borowiak and her husband Albert, Raymond Nawrocki and his wife Mildred, Louis Nawrocki and his wife Marjorie and Adrian Nawrocki; and great grandson Marcellus Robert Lennon.
