FAIRMONT - Funeral services for Lydia H. Holland, 102, of Winona, Minn., and formerly of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will follow the service in the Riverview Cemetery near Elmore, Minn. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Visitation also will be held prior to the time of service, beginning 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church. A luncheon will be served during the visitation prior to the Service for family and friends to share their memories.
Lydia passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Sauer Health Care Center in Winona, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lydia H. (Simon) Holland, the daughter of Julius and Clara (Fortman) Simon, was born Feb. 8, 1910, in Fairmont, Minn. She attended school in Fairmont and graduated from high school in 1928.
On Sept. 10, 1939, Lydia was married to Joseph Holland in Fairmont, Minn. He preceded her in death in November 1980. Lydia and Joseph lived on and farmed the Holland home farm near Elmore where they raised two daughters, Jane and Signe. In 1976, they retired and moved to their beloved home on George Lake in Fairmont where Lydia lived until 2006. At that time, she moved to her apartment in Goldfinch Assisted Living. Lydia was active in Salem Lutheran Church in Pilot Grove and later in Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, as well as various community organizations. In March of 2012, Lydia moved to Sauer Health Care Center in Winona, Minn.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jane (Philip) Gjevre of Stevens Point, Wis., and Signe (Dr. Roger) Cone of Winona, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Mark (Jane) Gjevre of Wayzata, Minn., Bryan Gjevre of Baldwin, Wis., Joel (Katianne) Gjevre of Plymouth, Minn., Theodore (Lynette) Cone of Onalaska, Wis., Lisle Cone of Mounds View, Minn., Sara Cone of West Bend, Wis., Rachel (Jeffery) Miller of Farmington, Minn., and Katherine (Daryl) Schulz of Rochester, Minn.; 10 great-grandchildren, Tobias and Maxwell Gjevre, Haley, Gracie and Joseph Cone, Tyler and Caraline Miller, and Davis, Lauren and Meredith Schulz; one sister-in-law; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Clara Simon; husband, Joseph Holland; three brothers, Henry, Peter, and Frank; and seven sisters, Anna, Ida, Minnie, Dora, Clara, Martha, and Mary.
The family requests memorials be given in Lydia's name to the Grace Lutheran Church, Martin County Historical Society, or Heritage Acres.
