FAIRMONT - Fairmont Area goalkeeper Alexis Christianson did not face a single shot on goal during the first 40 minutes of Monday night's soccer game.
The Cardinals' red-and-white offensive swarm bombarded Worthington netminder Alivia Rowley with 15 first-half missiles and nine corner kicks to build a 2-0 lead by intermission.

Mackenzie Betts' penalty-kick goal with 10:41 remaining in the second half, combined with six Christianson saves, sealed Fairmont Area's 3-0 non-league triumph over the visiting Trojans at Kot Soccer Complex in Fairmont.
"That's the first time all season that we've outshot our opponents by that margin," Cardinal mentor Matt Nielsen said in reference to his lineup's incredible 15-0 shots-on-goal edge during the first half en route to a 24-6 advantage overall. "I was very pleased with the pressure that our forwards and midfielders put on their (the Trojans') defense tonight."
Kate Nicoson, Sierra Schultz, Caitlin Parsley and Quincy Quiring relentlessly fired liners, risers and sinkers at the Trojans' net, with Rowley turning away a baker's dozen during the opening half.
Chloe Colvin, however, finally spoiled Rowley's shutout bid by punching home a goal just inside the right pipe. Parsley worked her way through traffic near the point before threading a seam-finding pass to Colvin near the doorstop for a 1-0 edge at the 26:05 juncture.
Lexi Johnson later doubled the Cardinals' margin to 2-0 by hammering a hard blast into the right corner of the Trojans' net from just right of the point. Hayley Jones settled the loose soccer ball before spotting Johnson for the goal at the 16:30 mark.
Nicoson and Johnson each smacked line-drives off the crossbar and the post during the second-half to help Fairmont Area maintained its high-octane strike force en route to a 9-6 shots-on-goal edge.
Betts then put the game out of reach by lining up along the left top edge of the box for a penalty kick at the 10:41 mark of the second half. Betts drilled a laser into the right top shelf for a commanding 3-0 advantage.

Fairmont Area 3, Worthington 2 - After trailing 2-0 through the majority of the game, the Cardinals scored three goals, including one by Lucas Miles in overtime, to defeat the Trojans 3-2 in a nonconference game on Monday night in Worthington.
The Trojans took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Josh Kleve scored at 26:06 in the first half for Worthington.
Forty-six seconds into the second half, Worthington sophomore Jose Alfredo Castillo netted the Trojans' second goal to double their lead.
Fairmont Area's offense finally managed to light up the scoreboard at 10:16 when Oscar Svenfelt scored on a corner kick from Grant Becker. Svenfelt, who was inside the box, put home the rebound on the scoring opportunity, making it 2-1.
With the Cardinals on the attack, a Trojan defender shoved Becker inside the penalty area, granting him a penalty kick. Becker scored with 53 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 2-2.
With 38 seconds remaining in the opening half of the overtime period, Miles scored the eventual game-winning goal off a pass from Svenfelt.
Becker carried the ball into the Trojans' end, finding Svenfelt on a pass up field. Svenfelt then connected with Miles, who put the kick into the left corner of the net to win the game.
"Lucas had two different scoring opportunities earlier in the game. One, he sent over the net and the second missed to the left, so it was great he got the winner," said Fairmont Area head coach Jeff Kot.
