To the Editor:
I was asked and have agreed to be a write-in candidate for the Martin County Soil and Water Conservation District supervisor for Area 3. Duane Petrowiak is retiring from the position after 22 years of capable service. Area 3 encompasses the townships of Tenhassen, Silver Lake, Pleasant Prairie, East Chain and farm land in Fairmont Township. Voting for this position is not limited to these townships; anyone who lives in Martin County can vote for supervisors.
My husband and I have lived in Silver Lake Township for more than 30 years and e have adopted a variety of conservation practices on our property. I have a degree in biology with an interest in the environment and ecology. I worked as a volunteer for the Department of Natural Resources during phenology studies of prairie and woodland plants at Kilen Woods and Blue Mounds State Parks for 10 years. I was also on the Martin County Park Board for four years and served as chair of that board.
My leadership positions over the past 20 years have included board chair of Life-Work Planning Center in Mankato, Fairmont Chapter of the American Red Cross, Southwest Chapter of the American Red Cross-Worthington, and currently Martin County Library Board. I have also been a co-president, secretary and treasurer of the Fairmont Branch of the American Association of University Women.
Once I made the decision to be a candidate, I have been attending the regular monthly meetings of the board and learning as much as I can. I believe I can make a contribution to this board and to the conservation efforts in Martin County. I would appreciate your write-in vote for me as Martin County Soil and Water Conservation District supervisor, Area 3, on Nov. 6.
