WACONIA - Johnson, Ralph A., DVM, age 80, of Waconia passed away on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.

Memorial Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at First Congregational Church of MN UCC (500 8th Street S.E.) Minneapolis, with Rev. Jane McBride officiating. Street parking only at the church; gathering of family and friends will take place Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Ralph was born Nov. 27, 1931, in Fairmont the son of Vanner and Evelyn (Erickson) Johnson. Ralph was baptized and confirmed in East Chain, Minn. On June 10, 1955, Ralph was united in marriage to Bonnie J. McCleary at the Congregational UCC Church in Fairmont.

Ralph was a graduate of East Chain High School class of 1949. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota, graduating from the veterinary school in 1961. Ralph started his veterinary career in Fairmont, practicing there for 22 years. He started the Interlaken Centre in Waconia in 1983. Ralph was a pioneer of Veterinary Acupuncture, which took him across the United States seeing clients. He was an active member of the IVAS (International Veterinary Acupuncture Society). Ralph bred and raised Arabian and Reining horses. At the time Ralph moved to Waconia, there was not an active Rotary Club, which he took upon himself to establish. He was a proud recipient of the Rotarian's Paul Harris Fellow award. Ralph was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Minneapolis and supported the Pilgrim Point Camp. He enjoyed ice fishing, playing cards and watching any sport that was on TV. Going to Arizona with Bonnie for three months in the winter, Ralph continued to work with his acupuncture. He loved traveling, taking three trips to Ireland with Bonnie. He had an appreciation for art and enjoyed big band music. Ralph always had his faithful companions with him, his Airedale dogs and most recently his Irish Terrier.

Ralph was a resident of the Auburn Home in Waconia for the past nine months, and he passed away from complications of PSP, a rare form of Parkinson's.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Vanner and Evelyn Johnson; and brothers, Charles (Jerry) Johnson and Claude (Mavis) Johnson.

Ralph is survived by his loving family:?wife, Bonnie; sons, Brad (Mary) Johnson of Oronoco, Blake (Nancy) Johnson of Waconia; grandchildren Jaime Johnson, Jenessa Johnson, Finley Johnson, Renner Johnson; step-grandchildren, AJ Dolan, Jack Dolan; sister, Norma (Charles) Talbert of Maryland; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Earl (Elaine) McCleary of Rochester, Sherry (Jerry) Voyles of Granada; and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
