Welcome back

August 28, 2012
Fairmont Sentinel

To the Editor:

On behalf of the teachers at Fairmont Area Schools, I would like to welcome you and your children back to school. We hope you and your family had a safe and relaxing summer vacation/break.

The teachers at Fairmont Area Schools are excited to be back. During the summer, some teachers taught summer school or spent time learning new technology skills that will be used in their classrooms or took workshops/classes to hone their teaching skills, or just relaxed to gear up for the upcoming school year. Whatever we did, we are fired up for another school year!

Will there be challenges this year? I am the first to admit that there will be. With the financial situation at the state level and the effect it is having on schools throughout Minnesota, we will face challenges. The upcoming local referendum in the fall is an important one for our community and we hope many of you will come out to vote. Even as we face the financial challenges, realize that teachers are here for you and your child. We will accept those challenges and do the best that we can for you given the resources we have available.

Within the coming weeks, you will once again see a few billboards and newspaper ads welcoming you and your children back to school. This is simple way the teachers and support staff in the area are welcoming you to a new school year and hoping for the best for your students.

When you have an opportunity, check out the district's website; www.fairmont.k12.mn.us or www.educationminnesota.org to find out the wonderful things happening in our public schools.

As mentioned, we are excited to be back and look forward to working with you and your children during the 2012-2013 school year. We wish you and your children a successful year. Remember, we are only a phone call or e-mail away to assist you and your children. We are here to serve you, the community.

Bob Millette, president,
