TRUMAN - Memorial service for Edith E. Killingsworth-Syler, 71, of Truman, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Fairmont. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Edith passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 21, 2012, at her home in Truman. Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is in charge of the arrangements for the family.
Edith Eliza Peck was born May 17, 1941, in Gouverneur, N.Y., the daughter of William and Sarah (Babcock) Peck. She attended school in Gouverneur and spent her childhood years there. She was united in marriage to Kenneth K. "Sailor Bill" Killingsworth and they made their home in Louisana and then Phenix City, Alabama. Kenneth passed away in February 1997. Edith lived in Oelwein, Iowa, where she met Richard Syler and they were married on May 17, 2008. Edith moved to Truman, Minn., in 2010. She loved going to church, crocheting, listening to music and being with her family.
Those who will cherish her memory include two daughters, April Killingsworth-Lewis of Oelwein, Iowa, Katherine and Bobbie Jean Parker of Truman, Minn.; Edith's husband, Richard Syler of Rock Island, Ill.; six special grandchildren, Bobbie, Kirsty, Kistler, Kendale, Katherine and Jodie; step grandchildren, Stephanie and Shari; step great grandchildren, Garrett, Parker and Tucker; three step children, Steven Syler, Michael Syler, Michelle Mendoza, all of Rock Island, Ill.; two brothers, Joseph Peck, David Peck and his wife, Caroline; sister, Eva Vasien; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, William and Sarah Peck; first husband, Kenneth "Sailor Bill" Killingsworth; brothers, William, Bob and Donald; sister, Gertrude; and several other brothers and sister who died in infancy.
