ARMSTRONG, Iowa - Services for Marjorie J. Strong, 86, of Armstrong will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Armstrong. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel, Armstrong.

Marjorie June (Tourtellott) Strong, the daughter of Frank B. and Martha E. (Pieper) Tourtellott, was born May 21, 1926, in rural Ceylon, Minn. Marjorie departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa, at the age of 86.

Marjorie was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Ceylon. She grew up in rural Ceylon and graduated from Ceylon High School in 1944. Following high school, Marjorie attended Mankato Commercial College in Mankato, Minn. After college, she worked for Schwen Ice Cream Company in Blue Earth, Minn., for three years. On Aug. 22, 1949, she was united in marriage to Lyle Strong at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Ceylon. Following their marriage, the couple began raising their family and farmed south of Armstrong for 11 years. In 1960, they moved to their farm north of town. They continued to farm until Lyle passed away on Aug. 29, 1993. Following Lyle's death, Marjorie continued to live on the farm until making her home at Valley Vue Care Center due to declining health. In her leisure time, she enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, bowling, golfing and gardening.

She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong and belonged in the Martha Circle and Leah Circle. Marjorie was also a member of the Neighborhood Friendship Club, VFW Auxiliary 5232 and the GFWC Wednesday Study Club.

Left to cherish Marjorie's memory are her three children, Kathleen Ferguson of Bella Vista, Ark.; Thomas Strong and his wife, Loretta of Armstrong; Renee Gunther and her husband, Conrad Anderson of Fairmont, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Jack Shields and his wife, Sue; Jodi Shields Galloway and her husband, Travis; Carie Phelps; Tommy Strong; Micah Anderson; Barbara Anderson; Pauline Anderson; 12 great-grandchildren: several beloved step-great-grandchildren; beloved boy, Robert Dale; sister-in-law, Mavis Snyder of Armstrong; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding Marjorie in death are her husband; parents; son, William; sister, Elaine Hain; brother, Frank Tourtellott and his wife, Marleen; two brothers-in-law and son-in-law, Dale Ferguson.
