FAIRMONT - Funeral service for Irene Carlson Heinrich, 99, of Fairmont will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Irene passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 7, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Fairmont.

Irene Carlson Heinrich was born Feb. 13, 1913, in Scarville, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Hermine (Benck) Oppedahl. Her family moved to rural Fairmont where she attended school and graduated from high school. She went on to the Mankato Normal (teaching) School, where she also graduated. After her schooling, she taught in country schools near Trimont and Northrop. She was united in marriage to Marvin Carlson on May 31, 1936, in Fairmont. They lived in Trimont, East Chain and then moved to Fairmont in 1947. Marvin passed away suddenly on July 6, 1984. On Jan. 4, 1992, she married Hugh Heinrich in Fairmont and they celebrated their anniversary every six months. Hugh passed away on June 14, 2012.

Irene loved to travel, dance, read, solve puzzles and golf. One of her joys was remembering family and extended family with a card every birthday and on special occasions. She also assisted in authoring a book about country schools. Irene was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont and the LWML, Ladies Aid and Charity Club. She was also a member of the Fairmont Hospital Auxiliary, Martin County Historical Society and the Martin County Extension.

Left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Marlene Laumb Cooley (Rox), Judy Carlson, Carol Cress (Randy), Connie Erickson; grandchildren, Jeff Laumb (Carla), Chris Laumb (Ruth), Matt Spielman (Julie), Brian Spielman (Rachel), Nick Cress, Sam Cress, Sarah Erickson Hoving (Hank); great grandchildren, Cali, Austin, Jack and Graham Laumb; Hugh's children, Leslie Heinrich (Peggy), Roger Heinrich (Sandra), Rod Heinrich (Deb); step grandchildren, Sherri (Kenny), Julie, Gin, Dena, Tracy, Lee (Becky), Meredith, Jennifer, Jeffrey (Jen), and Justin; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Hermine Oppedahl; first husband, Marvin Carlson, second husband, Hugh Heinrich; three sisters, Mildred Norman Pehrson, Marva Nelson and Wanda Oppedahl; one brother, Marvin Oppedahl.

Memorials are preferred to be given in Irene's name to the United Hands Hospice Program.
