Multi-tasking during dog days of summer

FAIRMONT - Fairmont student-athletes honed their skills during three recent offseason camps or summertime programs.

Bryce Holm, the Cardinals' Prep Bowl record-setting receiver, captured most valuable player honors for gridders in grades 9-12 during last week's Fairmont Football Camp at Mahoney Field in Fairmont.

Walker Tordsen claimed camp MVP accolades for players in grades 7-8, while the varsity trio of Mark Fruechte, Justin Barnes and Jordan Voss also earned camp honors. Fruechte was tabbed Mr. Razzle Dazzle, Barnes merited Mr. Hustle honors, while Voss was selected as most improved.

Kyle Guetter (seniors), Nick Roggow (juniors), Joe Slater (sophomores), Tyler Tennyson (freshmen), Cody Freese (8th graders) and Collin Steuber (7th graders) captured MVP camp accolades for their respective grades.

Scott Madsen and Jacob Portz (seniors), Jeff Brickner and Derek Edman (juniors), Nic Vanasse and Colton Cunning (sophomores), Josh Sunblad and Jack Maakestad (freshmen), Carter Baarts an Levi Bulfer (8th graders), and Nate Kallenbach and Brady Allen (7th graders) did likewise in the camp's hustle awards.


Serving aces.

J.T. Viesselman, Andrea Carstensen, Ellie Tonder, Kellen Rodriguez, Seth Carlmark and Chloe Diekmann combined to form Team 2 to capture first place during the six-week Fairmont USA Tennis Summer Program at Cardinal Courts in Fairmont.

Tyler Head captured first place in the individual position competition at the No. 1 spot, Jill Paris topped the field at No. 2, while Tony Joseph was tops at the No. 3 position. Leah Fortune claimed first at No. 4, Ben Hernes did likewise at No. 5, while Morgan Cihoski was tops at No. 6.

Claire Nemmers placed first during the first session individual tournament in the age 7-10 lesson group, Maddy Schwieger netted second, Lauren Green placed third and Sabrina Segar finished fourth.

The Bouncing Bunnies - comprised of Emma Driehorst, Shannon Green, Dawn Garbers, Tabitha Thatcher, Libby Totzke and Joseph Schmidt - won the second session team tournament for the 7-10 group.

Connor Madsen placed first in the first session individual tournament for the age 11-14 lesson group, Thomas Klanderud netted second, Apoorva Komaragiri took third and Evan Carlson placed fourth.

In the second session individual tourney for the 11-14 group, Aaron Hendricks placed first, Ameye Komaragiri netted second, Holly Petrowiak claimed third and Whitley Hoffman was fourth.


Hooping it up.

Bryce Holm not only played American Legion baseball and earned top football camp accolades, but he also proved the 1-on-1 champion for grades 10-12 at Fairmont's I-90 Basketball Camp at Cardinal Gym.

Levi Becker, who was tabbed Mr. Hustle for grades 10-12, teamed with Nick Roggow to win the 2-on-2 crown before joining Luke Hested and Riley Schwieger to net the 3-on-3 team title.

Ben Abel and Parker Monsen netted the 10th grade's 2-on-2 crown, while Abel joined Nate Johnson, Dustin Slaughter and Jon Harris to win the 3-on-3 title.

Josh Eversman was tabbed Mr. Globetrotter in the grades 10-12 class, while Nate Johnson proved the hot shot winner.

In grades 7-9, Tyler Johnson claimed the hot shot crown, Josh Liljenquist won the Mr. Globetrotter award, while Brady Allen was tabbed Mr. Hustle.

In grades 4-6, Jack Hested netted the hot shot competition, Jacob Tennyson won Mr. Globetrotter, while Blake Haugen was the Mr. Hustle winner.
