FAIRMONT - Funeral Service for Blake M. Harder, 50, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel in Fairmont. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. today, July 25, at Lakeview Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the Lakeview Funeral Home on Thursday.
Blake passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont.
Blake Melvin Harder was born on June 28, 1962, in Fairmont, Minn. He was the son of Melvin and Myrna (Rakness) Harder. He spent his childhood in Truman and graduated from Truman High School in 1981.
After high school, Blake worked for Hodgeman Construction. He later drove trucks for Bettin Trucking and Fairmont Concrete and also worked as a mechanic for Brown Truck Leasing.
On Aug. 30, 1986, Blake was united in marriage to Jona Benschoter in Fairmont. The couple resided in Truman before moving to Garretson, S.D. They were later divorced.
Blake enjoyed spending his time playing pool and darts as well as singing with his bands. He also loved fishing and boating. In 2007, Blake was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Even after his diagnosis, he never gave up his love for life and always kept a positive attitude.
Left to cherish his memory are his father and step-mother, Melvin and Mary Ann Harder; sisters, Kim Grotzinger and her husband, Newton, of Hampton, Iowa, Kara Harder of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Krystal Pluim and her husband, Curt, of Champlain, Minn.; brother, Brett Harder of Elk River; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, other relatives and friends.
Along with his grandparents, Blake was preceded in death by his mother, Myrna Harder.
