Blue Earth legion stays alive in district

TRUMAN - The Blue Earth American Legion Post 89 baseball lineup maximized a minimum amount of hits Sunday to edge St. James Post 33 in an elimination playoff game, 8-6, in Truman.

Blue Earth (14-9) advances to face Springfield - an 8-4 elimination-game winner over Pipestone - in another Division II, 2nd District Tournament elimination game at 1 p.m. Friday in Truman.

Carter Hanson slugged a solo home run for Post 89 during the top of the third inning, while teammate Dallas Barslou delivered a pivotal bases-loaded double during a three-run fourth at-bat.

Quinn Huisman, Seth Anderson and Matt Rockers each contributed singles to Blue Earth's five-hit offensive performance.

Andrew Bell accomplished a pitching rarity, netting both the victory and a save.

Bell worked the first four frames on the hill before giving way to Barslou in the fifth. Barslou pitched two innings before Bell closed out the game by working the seventh.

Bell allowed four runs, struck out four and issued one walk in five combined innings, while Barslou gave up two runs, struck out one and issued one walk during the fifth and sixth innings.

Devin Wolle doubled twice to plate half of St. James' runs, while teammates Walker Froehling and Sam Carlson each generated two of Post 33's 10 hits on the game. Froehling scored two runs on the game, while Craig Nelson drew two walks and scored three times.
