FAIRMONT - The Fairmont Martins scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap a 10-3 Region 13C amateur baseball playoff victory over the Tracy Express in Game 1 of a best-of-3 series at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont on Wednesday night.
With the game knotted at 1-1, Fairmont's Adam Schmidt hit a leadoff double in the bottom of the seventh to right-center to start the Martins' scoring rally.
Dustin Sobolik traded places with a double to left-center, plating Schmidt to give Fairmont a 2-1 lead. A bunt single by Taylor Nawrocki moved Sobolik to third and a single by Ian Bents loaded the bases.

Tanner Nawrocki hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Sobolik to extend Fairmont's lead to 3-1.
In the bottom of the eighth, Shaun McGuire led things off with a single to left field. A walk by Max Waletich and an RBI single by Schmidt helped McGuire to score.
Waletich gained second on the Schmidt single, and an overthrow by the Tracy left fielder allowed Waletich to score.
Fairmont tacked on another four runs with the help of RBI singles by Tanner Nawrocki and Jon Ellis to give it a 10-2 lead going into the final inning.
Waletich scored Fairmont's first run of the game on an error by the Tracy catcher Robbie Slinkman. Waletich hit a single and stole second before taking third on Sobolik's fieder's choice.
Tracy scored a run on the bottom of the sixth after Jason Minett hit a triple to right-center.
Calvin Kosminskas reached on a Fairmont error to score Minett to tie the game at 1-1.
The Express added another run in the top of the eighth inning when Jesse Drager led off with a double and scored on Slinkman's double.
The Express added their final run in the top of the ninth inning when Andrew Mathiowetz walked and later scored on Andrew Suby's fielder's choice. Tracy's Darrick Allpress and Dager walked to load the bases before Suby's fielder's choice.
Adam Schmidt went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored to pace Fairmont's offensive effort.
Waletich went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored to aid in the Martins' victory. Sobolik and Bents each went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Tanner Nawrocki went 1-for-4 with a run scored and collected two RBIs, while Ellis went 1-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI. McGuire added the other RBI for the Martins in the win.
For Tracy, Allpress went 1-for-3 to lead the offensive effort, while Greg Barnes, Slinkman and Drager each going 1-for-4. Minett and Drager collected the two Express RBIs.
Taylor Nawrocki pitched five innings of one-hit baseball to take the no-decision, striking out six and walking two.
Aaron Siefken pitched the final four innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out five to take the win for the Martins.
Tracy's Phil Madsen pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with one walk to take the loss for the Express.
Nathan Schaeffer came in and pitched the final 1 2/3 innings of relief, allowing seven runs on six hits and walking two.
Fairmont (22-6) and Tracy (7-14) will square off in Game 2 of the Region 13C best-of-three series at 7:30 p.m. Friday night in Tracy.
