ARMSTRONG, Iowa - Services for Raymond D. Sanders, 85, of Armstrong will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Armstrong United Methodist Church with Pastor Ray Sherwood officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel, Armstrong.
Raymond Dale Sanders, the son of William and Lydia (Grandgeorge) Sanders, was born October 23, 1926, in Swea City, Iowa. He passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont, Minnesota, at the age of 85.
He attended school in Swea City and graduated from Swea City High School.
He was united in marriage to Opal Opsal. The couple made their home in Armstrong where Raymond was employed as a farmhand and also drove the Standard Oil Tank Wagon Truck. Later he was employed many years at ArtsWay Manufacturing in Armstrong. Opal died in 1972. On June 23, 1973, Raymond was united in marriage to Carol Fynboh in Armstrong. Raymond then was manager of the lumber yard for 12 years and then went to work at Rim and Wheel until his retirement. In addition to his other work, Raymond drove school bus for nine years. He also served on the Armstrong Fire Department for nine years and was a partner at S&S Services with Mike Sjoblom. In his leisure time he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and going to coffee shops.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Armstrong. He was a ABC Realty Board Member, served on the Fire District Board and also served on the Armstrong City Council.
Left to cherish Raymond's memory are his wife, Carol of Armstrong; two daughters, Ramona Permann of Rochester, Minn.; Allison Pedersen and her husband, Dr. Jeff of Arlington, Texas; son, Daniel Sanders of Orroville, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Ben and Jacy Pedersen; Leah and Megan Sanders; Dustin Lueck; Damon (Heather) Lueck; Gabriel Permann; Andrew Permann; Caleb Permann; five great-grandchildren; brother, Roger Sanders and his wife, Sue of Fairmont, Minn., and two sisters, Dorothy Looft and her husband, Phillip of Mankato, Minn., and Helen Geerdes and her husband, Don of Swea City.
Preceding Raymond in death were his first wife; parents; two brothers, Robert and Marvin; sister, Ruth Decker; sister-in-law, Sharon Porter and father-in-law, Robert Corderman.
