BANCROFT - The North Union Warriors baseball team scored two runs in the third inning to beat Algona, 2-1, on Thursday in Algona, Iowa.
Algona struck first in the Warrior victory, Bulldog designated hitter Cole Nielson took the first pitch to right center for a double to start the rally.
Sam Lipps hit a single to left to move Nielson to third and on a passed ball from Sawyer Doocy Nielson scored.
In the top of the third inning, North Union responded with its own rally. Evan Hagebock walked to reach first base, and Doocy was hit by the second pitch he faced, putting him aboard.
Brett Thackery advanced both his teammates with a single to left field, and Garrett Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to score Hagebock and tie the game at 1-1.
Cody Runksmeier walked on four straight pitches, causing the Bulldogs to switch their starter, Clay Collision, with Tyler Franzen.
On the fourth pitch from the reliever, Alex Deitering was hit and took first base, scoring Doocy to give the Warriors the one-run lead.
Doocy threw a complete game to earn the win, giving up one run one five hits and striking out eight.
Collison pitched 2 2/3 innings for Algona, striking out three and allowing two runs on one hit.
Franzen pitched 4 1/3 innings of relief, holding North Union scoreless while allowing three hits and striking out three.
Brett Thackery went 2-for-3 with two base hits to lead the Warrior offense. Jake Adams went 1-for-3 for North Union, along with Brandon Kollasch who went 1-for-4.
North Union (23-6) hosts Pocahontas in Bancroft for a 5:30 p.m. game Monday.
