Warriors beat Humboldt, 6-4

BANCROFT - The North Union Warriors baseball team scored three runs in the first inning en route to a 6-4 win over Humboldt on Tuesday.

Garrett Johnson came up with runners on first and second in the first inning and two outs to hit a two run single to start the Warriors scoring.

Brett Deitering led things off for North Union with a base hit and then stole second to get into scoring position. Brett Thackery walked to take first base and then both scored on Johnson's single.

Thackery took second and third on two wild-pitches and then scored on a third wild-pitch to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead.

Jake Adams had a single to start off a two-run second inning for North Union. Brett Deitering walked to put runners on first and second base and a sacrifice fly by Evan Hagebock moved runners to second and third.

Sawyer Doocy came up and delivered the two-run double to give North Union a 5-0 lead, scoring Adams and Deitering.

Humboldt scored a run in the bottom of the second inning and two in the bottom of the third, but could not overcome North Union's lead.

North Union added a security run in the top of the third inning. Alex Deitering hit a single to get on for the Warriors and moved to second when Zack Hurlburt walked.

Adams walked to move Deitering to third and Hagebock hit a base hit to score the final run.

Humboldt added two runs in the bottom of the third and one run in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it a two run game.

Doocy held on and earned the save for North Union.

Cody Runksmeier pitched five and 2/3 innings for Fairmont, giving up four runs - three earned - one eight hits and striking out two.

Doocy came in and pitched the final one and 1/3 inning of relief, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Alex Deitering went 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead the Warrior offense in the win. Adams went 1-for-2 with a runs scored, while Hagebock went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Brett Deitering went 1-for-4 with two runs scored.

Doocy went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Johnson went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

North Union (22-6) hosts Pochahontas at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Bancroft.
