FAIRMONT - Fairmont Legion Post 36 scored 10 runs in the first inning on its way to a 13-5 victory over New Ulm Gold on Monday at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont.
Gold's Kevin Larson started the game by hitting the second pitch deep to right center for a leadoff triple. A double by Zach Hoffman put New Ulm ahead 1-0.
Fairmont responded early and often in the first inning, with Levi Becker hitting a single to get things going for Fairmont. After gaining second base on a wild pitch and advancing to third on a fielder's choice, Becker scored on a Jon Ellis single.

Fairmont's Mitch Pfingsten walked to put runners on first and second. Jay Ruens then scored Ellis with a base hit. Ellis gained second and Pfingsten scored from third on a balk, and Andy Reiter collected an RBI on a base hit to score Ruens.
The big hit came from Sean Klein with Reiter and Holm on base. Klein hit a ball deep into the outfield for a triple, collecting two RBIs.
With a 6-0 lead, Fairmont batted around to the top of the order, and Levi Becker stepped up and deliverd another triple for Fairmont, scoring Luke Becker, who had reached on an error.
Max Waletich scored the final run of the first inning for Fairmont on Pfingsten's second at-bat of the inning.
Levi Becker then held New Ulm Gold scoreless through the fourth inning, and gave up just four runs on six hits in five innings of work.
Fairmont added to its lead in the third with Ellis hitting a triple to right center off the wall, then scoring on Ruens' base hit.
New Ulm's Larson led off the fifth with a single and a stolen base to get into scoring position. Hoffman came up and hit his second double of the night for New Ulm, scoring Larson from second.
Jason Grand then hit a blast just inside the right foul pole with Hoffman on second. The home run made it 11-4.
In the bottom of the fifth, Fairmont responded again, scoring two runs on Pfingsten's double to right center.
Waletich came in to pitch the final two innings for Fairmont, allowing one run in the seventh on three hits.
Ellis went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI to pace the Fairmont offense. Pfingsten was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Fairmont.
Levi Becker and Klein went 2-for-4 with triples. Becker had two runs scored and one RBI while Klein had one run scored and two RBIs. Ruens was 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs.
Fairmont (3-2) travels to Sleepy Eye for an 8 p.m. game on Monday.
