FAIRMONT - The Fairmont VFW Post 1222 baseball team split a doubleheader with Blue Earth Post 4580 on Saturday at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont.
Nate Johnson produced the game-winning RBI single with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning to propel Fairmont to an 8-7 opening victory.
Blue Earth rallied in the latter innings to edge Fairmont, 7-6, in Game 2.
Johnson collected his second hit and second RBI of Game 1 when he singled home Parker Monsen during Post 1222's final at-bat.
Monsen went 2-for-3, scored two runs and drove in one run in the opener, while teammates Luke Becker, Bailey Koppen and Josh Lindquist each added a hit.
Lindquist started Game 1, allowing seven runs - four earned - on nine hits in seven innings of work to earn the victory. Lindquist struck out four and walked one.
Alex Stewart collected two hits to top Blue Earth's offensive effort in the opener.
Stewart and Mason Ochsendorf each produced two hits to help pace Post 4580's one-run victory in Game 2.
Jon Soucek delivered a bases-loaded double for three RBIs to top Fairmont in the second game, while Bailey Koppen went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Luke Becker, Nate Johnson and Zach Eversman each added a hit for Post 1222.
Monsen gave up six runs on eight hits and walked two in four innings on the hill to receive no decision in Game 2.
Matt Lytle allowed one run on three hits, struck out four and walked three in three innings of relief to take the loss for the home team.
Fairmont (3-3) hosts New Ulm Silver at 6 p.m. Wednesday night at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont before hitting the road to St. James on Saturday.
