To the Editor:
On behalf of the teachers of Fairmont Area Schools, I would like to take this time to say thank you for your help and support this year as we worked hard to educate your children. We hope your child left school a better reader, a better writer and a better math student. We feel we offer a well-rounded, well-balanced educational program in our school system that helps our students succeed.
Many teachers are busy during the summer with activities of their own. Some will be teaching summer school in July, some will be taking classes, some will be doing part-time jobs and some will research new ways to improve their classroom delivery system. Whatever we do, it will be what is best for your child as we re-energize for a new school year in a few months.
I also would like to say thanks for the support of the school board, administration, support personnel, crossing guards and bus drivers. Without their guidance, support and help things may not get accomplished.
As you realize, we are facing many challenges in our district due to declining enrollment and revenue loss. Changes and adjustments were made to programs and classes to help with this loss. Realize that the teachers will do the best they can for your students with the resources available to us. We appreciate your support during these trying times.
This was the first year that Fairmont Area Schools has had a pre-K-6 building to house our elementary students. As with any new system, there were challenges to overcome and adjustments to make. But what was done was to improve the system for your children. We had a unique opportunity for older students to interact with younger students in a positive way. Some older students read to the younger students, played games with them, etc. We are all one building and want to make sure everyone feels comfortable in his or her new environment.
We heard many thank-yous at the parade this past weekend when the teachers passed out books to the parade watchers. Publishers from around the country donated all the books for Education Minnesota Fairmont through a program called First Book. We hope your child will take time to read his or her new book, as well as other books this summer.
Finally, as you travel around Fairmont you may notice some billboards sponsored by Education Minnesota Fairmont as well as surrounding school district teachers and support personnel, as well as seen ads in the paper. The billboards and ads are our way of saying thanks to the community for their support this past school year in working with the students in our area.
Until next school year, have a safe, relaxing summer with family and friends. Thanks again community members for a successful school year.
Congratulations class of 2012. Good luck in the future.
