SWEA CITY - The Iowa Class 2A, No. 1-ranked North Union Warrior softball team steamrolled to a Corn Belt Conference doubleheader sweep over Clay Central-Everly on Monday night in Swea City.
The Warriors, who entered the game as the No. 2 home run-hitting school in all of the Iowa prep ranks, delivered three more round-trippers to pace a 15-1, three-inning opening triumph over the Mavericks before coasting to a 12-0, three-inning shutout in the nightcap.
Dena Looft belted a home run and added a single to produce a game-leading four RBIs for North Union in Game 1.
Jasmine Clausen went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs for the Warriors, while teammate Tori Johnson went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
Collete Haag went 2-for-3 with a double, while Sara Johnson and Taylor Mathine each contributed a pair of singles to the winning effort. Allie Ingalls supplied a double, while Harley Lindell added a single in the opener.
Haag allowed one run on one hit in three innings inside the pitcher's circle to earn the victory. Haag recorded three strikeouts.
Looft, who went 2-for-2, drilled a grand slam homer to complete the twinbill with an incredible eight RBIs, while Lindell contributed a round-tripper to the Warriors' offensive explosion in Game 2.
Tori Johnson went 3-for-3 in the nightcap; Sara Johnson tripled; while Ingalls, Cheyanne Boland, Haag and Autumn Boland each singled.
Haag started inside the circle and allowed two hits in one shutout inning pitched to receive no decision.
Peyton Oleson relieved in the second frame and registered three strikeouts in two hitless and scoreless innings to earn the victory.
North Union (18-0) plays host to nonconference opponent Okoboji at 5:30 p.m. tonight in Swea City.
