To the Editor:
Often in a world where there is too much negativity, bickering and complaint, our society tends to pass the buck and place blame on everyone but ourselves. Occasionally, it is refreshing to hear something positive instead.
Today, I would like to pass on a little good news, and just say thank you to one of our local businesses that, in a pinch, jumped in to help out another in need.
In March, our Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3394 hosted the Annual 6th District Convention here in Fairmont. The banquet was scheduled for Saturday, March 24, at 6 p.m. By 5:45, we realized the scheduled caterer was not coming. A phone call confirmed that, because of a miscommunication, the caterer had the date set for the next day, and they had nothing prepared to serve so many people on such short notice.
Apologies were made, but that didn't feed the 70 people who had already paid in advance for a two-meat dinner. Now, we could have made a ruckus, caused a scene, gave everyone their money back and sent them off to fend for themselves. However, it made more sense to realize that sometimes things just happen and try to find another alternative.
One phone call to our local Pizza Ranch, explaining the situation to the manager, Nicole Skweres, solved our problem. She did not even hesitate. She asked what we wanted. We replied, "Whatever you can do quickly?" Her quick response and helpful staff delivered a full chicken dinner to serve 70 people, with mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable and dessert to our club in less than an hour. And, they came and picked up the dirty serving pans when we were done. The food was excellent, and everyone was impressed.
Thank you Pizza Ranch for your fantastic service, and for being a valuable asset to our local community.
