Early years matter most

April 18, 2012
Fairmont Sentinel

To the Editor:

Young children in the Fairmont Area are the future of our community and deserve the best that we can give them. The Week of the Young Child, April 22-28, honors young children and all those who make a difference in children's lives.

The Week of the Young Child is a time to remind us that "Early Years are Learning Years." Children need a strong early learning foundation to succeed in school and in life.

The Week of the Young Child offers the opportunity to recognize the needs of young children and thank the adults involved in their care and education. Parents, teachers, caregivers and other adults play important roles in the lives of young children and "Week of the Young Child" celebrates their efforts.

We can show our support for early learning in our community by promoting early literacy programs, thanking those who make a difference in the lives of our children and working to ensure that our public policies continue to support early learning for all young children.
