To the Editor:
Wow, what an awesome weekend to showcase Fairmont and the Fairmont Hockey Association ice rink.
Most of the players and parents had never been to Fairmont before.
We would like to thank all of the volunteers with Fairmont Hockey Association who made the girls age 12 and under eight-team state tournament such a huge success.
We would especially like to thank arena manager Rick Oskerson for working his magic with the ice all weekend. Mother Nature gave Rick 80 degree temperatures outside and he gave us perfect ice inside.
Thank you to the area staff of Rick Oskerson, Scott Cole, Joel Meyer, Jim Kain and Sandy Kain, who allow us to play in the cleanest arena in Minnesota each and every day with an outstanding concession stand.
Thank you to Jason Subbert and his staff for providing the teams with local hotel accommodations, and to all the local businesses that gave the teams Fairmont's version of southern hospitality.
To Rich Johnson of Culligan Water, thank you for your water donations throughout the hockey tournaments this season.
To whoever made it possible for a team to trap shoot at the gun range and take a pontoon ride, the girls were all smiles as they talked about these experiences.
We even heard a parent say they purchased a new truck from a Fairmont dealership while in town, proving that tournaments and events in our community really do benefit local businesses.
Thank you again for an awesome tourism weekend.
