FAIRMONT - The Irresistibles are closing out the season for the Blues on Stage series at Fairmont Opera House.
The nine-piece band will perform 7:30 p.m. March 16, with a show that stretches beyond the blues genre.
"We're more of a retro/soul/rock band, definitely with blues elements in it," said frontman Mick Sterling, who described The Commitments, Amy Winehouse and Otis Redding as "the pillars" of the band.
If his name sounds familiar, it's because the Opera House booked Sterling's other band, Memphis & the Meantimes, in November for the subscription series.
This time, Sterling will be one of three lead singers. Katie Gearty and Cate Fierro are the other two vocalists, plus two musicians on horns and a rhythm section.
"It's very horn-driven; it's very soul- and R&B-driven, but it attacks like a rock band in a lot of ways," Sterling said.
The Irresistibles play songs from legends such as Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner, but their set list doesn't necessarily include artists' No. 1 hits.
"We kind of dig a little bit into the rock and soul songbook, a little bit deeper than some other bands," Sterling said.
Based in the Twin Cities, the group has been together five years now, frequently playing at The Narrows in Orono.
