We at the Chamber of Commerce of Southern Minnesota had the honor to be asked to a breakfast with the Minnesota Workforce Center. The subject was the National Career Readiness Certificate. There are almost 19,000 profiles, and it is being used in 31 states. It was just introduced but there are already 6,000 profiles in Minnesota. It has a track record of helping companies reducing turnover and recruitment costs.
At one company, there was a turnover in one year of 13 out of 18. Through the assessment, it brought that number down to one. The company reduced workers compensation 57 percent, and saw an 80 percent reduction in non-conforming product.
What does a test like this cost? Absolutely nothing. Why wouldn't you have every applicant do this.
A fantastic tip is to take your outstanding employees and have them test. Then when you get similar test results, you know a new applicant has the skill set to be an outstanding employee.
We will begin working on getting this into high schools so every graduate has a assessment.
