Fund-raiser went well

February 27, 2012
Fairmont Sentinel

To the Editor:

The Fairmont chapter of Dollars for Scholars again wants to thank so many community members who attended our annual dinner fund-raiser. As a result of ticket sales and additional donations, we netted more than $3,000 to be added to our awards for the 2012 scholarship season. We currently estimate we'll have about $108,000 in scholarships to award.

Applications already are available online at and in the high school guidance office, and are due April 2.

Thank you to Hy-Vee for catering the event. It and its staff were outstanding with everything done to make the dinner a success. The Knights of Columbus were great and detail-oriented. Their space is a wonderful venue for this event, and we appreciate them making it available to us. A big thank you to the students. It's so much fun to hear the positive comments from those attending on the high school students' manners, as well as how sharp they looked.

Thank you also to those who helped us publicize this event: the Sentinel, Photo Press, Channel 12 and Gemini Studios, Farmers and Merchants Bank, and Wells Federal Savings Bank.

Thank you also to the Dollars for Scholars board members who worked so hard in planning this event and baking the fabulous goodies for the bake sale.

Loren Dunham, chapter president, and

Liz Wheeler, executive secretary
