MAPLETON - The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers made a few adjustments from their first wrestling meeting with the Blue Earth Area Bucs earlier this season.

On Jan. 6, the Panthers eked out a 36-30 nonconference win over the Bucs, but on Saturday during the Section 2A Team Meet, the No. 4-seeded Panthers put together a more solid victory via 39-23 victory over the No. 5-seeded Bucs in the quarterfinal round.

Blue Earth Area ended its season at 19-10.

Class A top-ranked Jackson County Central went on to beat the Panthers 56-11 in the semifinal round later in the day, ending NRHEG's team season with a 16-6 mark.

The Huskies (22-3) then beat No. 12-ranked Maple River (17-2) 59-7 in the championship tilt to earn a trip to the state tournament.

The Huskies will wrestle Thursday, March 1 in the state quarterfinals at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

"They're (Panthers) a quality team. They turned a couple wins around on us (on Saturday) that we got before (on Jan. 6). Their lineup is solid all the way through. Our kids wrestled hard, it just wasn't meant to be," said Bucs head coach Randy Wirtjes.

The Panthers got out to a solid start at 106 as Dillon Kubiatowicz pinned Ryan Gronewold in 1:54, however the Bucs' Alec Huber countered at 113 with a fall over Ben Whiteaker in 3:24.

But the Panthers claimed the next three victories to take a lead the Bucs would not recapture.

Jade Waltz scored a 14-11 win over Jordan Stelter at 120, before No. 4-ranked Dustin Esplan pinned Mike Ankeny in 1:30 at 126. Tyler Logan then downed Luke Schavey 7-4 at 132 and the Panthers took an 18-6 team lead.

Jesse Alleven won for the Bucs at 138 with a 10-5 win over Jacob Staloch, before NRHEG's David Lassahn pinned Jacob Johnson in 26 seconds at 145 and Nathan Krohn scored a 7-3 win over David Franta at 152.

The Bucs' No. 4-ranked Carter Hanson topped Dillon Parpart by a 19-3 technical fall in 3:30 at 160, before the Panthers won the next three matches to clinch the meet.

Matt Dahle downed Chris Ramos 8-7 at 170, before Keith Maxon's forfeit win at 182 mathematically clinched the meet for the Panthers. No. 2-ranked Seth Petranek then topped Kysten Zierke, 8-2, at 195.

The Bucs claimed wins in the last two matches as No. 3-ranked Josh Johnson downed Geoff Ramaker 8-2 at 220 and Martin Granados pinned Wyatt Fitterer in 1:23 at heavyweight.
