To the Editor:
For the month of January, 13 local artists had the privilege of displaying their creative work at Red Rock Center for the Arts. Being one of these artists, I'd like to thank the staff and those who support the Red Rock for their sponsorship and encouragement.
The artists reception, held on Jan. 8 was a big success. The recognition given to our regional artists made us feel special. I personally felt like a celebrity, especially when the Sentinel was there to take pictures and friends presented flowers.
Overall, Fairmont has been good about inspiring and accepting new talent. Since I've lived in this community (10 years now), I've been urged to display my work at the hospital, the Fairmont Opera House, the fair, several retirement facilities, on the walls of the Salvation Army's backroom and at Red Rock Center, all leading to the sale of several pieces of my work. Not bad for a budding artist.
Having the backing of not only the Red Rock Center and the Salvation Army art workshops, but also of all those who aid and nuture local talent, including the Sentinel, helps us to further our artistic goals. It promotes us to pass along our talent to others.
Having had teaching opportunities in the area has been a blessing and having enthusiastically shared my talent with others in the community has been even more rewarding than the sales. Can't thank those who've supported my talent enough for making me bloom.
