To the Editor:
I love how the Salvation Army prides itself on helping the needy, especially during the holiday season. But if your life falls apart the week before Christmas, you cannot get help from the food shelf until after Christmas. How is that helping the needy?
Everyone has different life circumstances, and some things happen that are totally beyond our control. If you do not normally use the Salvation Army on a regular basis, then if you need them around Christmas, you can't get any help. This does not seem fair to me.
On top of not being able to get help, they are rude. I understand they are busy helping the same people they help every month, but that does not mean you need to be rude to people who do not normally get your help. No one should have to leave the Salvation Army in tears because they are told they cannot be helped because they are busy with their Christmas programs right now. What about the holidays for the rest of us?
