In retrospect, it's difficult to believe that there has not been a parent-teacher organization at Fairmont Area Schools for 20 years. But a new collaboration has formed, aiming to do more for students at Fairmont Elementary School. The group is in its infancy and is looking for more input and volunteers.
Among other things, the group could look for places to find grant monies, coordinate volunteer projects or create math workshops for parents so they can help their children with homework.
We agree with Superintendent Joe Brown, who says really great schools have strong involvement from parents. Like him, we hope this parent-teacher group evolves into something special.
We encourage parents, and even others, to take a deeper interest in the things happening at Fairmont Elementary. To some, "the school"?can seem like a distant entity, but the people who work there would like to make connections with caring community members.
