FAIRMONT - Fairmont Area Foundation awarded its 2011 community grants Friday.
The Foundation gave away $37,422 to the following organizations:
o City of Ceylon to purchase a deck gun for a pumper truck.
o Civic Summer Theatre in Fairmont to update its sound system.
o Fairmont Opera House to upgrade the stage lights.
o Fairmont Police Department to purchase safety equipment.
o Fox Lake Area Sports Commission to install safety caps on fences.
o Heritage Acres to replace windows and repair sills in the chapel.
o Interlaken Heritage Days for the 2011 IHD Summer Fun Festival.
o Martin County Historical Society to repair the roof on the Pioneer Museum.
o Martin County Humane Society to replace an aging computer system.
o Martin County Preservation Society to purchase new chairs for Red Rock Center for the Arts.
o Martin County West ECI for an indoor play area, infant welcome baskets and day care improvements.
o South Central Volunteer Dive Team to purchase a boat and equipment.
o Southwest MN Chapter of the American Red Cross for equipment/curriculum for CPR/AED, First Aid, professional rescuer and baby-sitting.
o Welcome Fire Department Relief Association to replace grass-fire rig.
One grant is pending final approval and will be announced at a later date.
Applicants for the grant are all non-profit organizations with 501(c)3 status in Martin County.
The foundation was formed 20 years ago and began awarding grants in 1994. Since then, the board of directors has awarded grants totaling $741,000 to improve the quality of life in Martin County.
