FAIRMONT - Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash that killed four young men north of Welcome on Saturday.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, an open bottle was found in the vehicle that collided with a semi at County Road 27 and 180th Street.

Whether the driver was intoxicated will be determined by toxicology reports, which take several weeks.

The investigation showed the vehicle was westbound on 180th Street when it failed to stop for a stop sign and struck the semi traveling south on County Road 27.

One passenger in the vehicle - Amanada Sue Persinger, 22, of St. James - was airlifted to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. She remains in critical condition.
