Gladys M. Niehaus
FAIRMONT - Services for Gladys M. Niehaus, 91, of Fairmont, will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont. Gladys passed away on Friday morning, Dec. 18, 2009, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont.
Gladys Mae (Steffen) Niehaus was born Feb. 28, 1918, in LeMars, Iowa, the daughter of George and Margaret (Johnson) Steffen. Gladys received her education at the Red Rock School in Oklahoma. The family lived in LeMars, Hanska and New Ulm. After age 20, Gladys lived in El Reno and Calumet, Okla., before moving to Granada, Minn. She worked for a time at JCPenney, as well as the telephone company.
On Nov. 8, 1936, Gladys was united in marriage to Cecil A. Niehaus in Fairmont, Minn. The couple shared 24 years of marriage before Cecil passed away in February 1961.
On May 20, 1989, Gladys was united in marriage to Gordon Butch Klopp in Fairmont, Minn. Gordon passed away on July 14, 1993.
Gladys was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairmont and later Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. She was a member of the Fairmont Community Hospital Auxiliary. During her free time, she loved sewing, crocheting, cooking, baking, working in her flower garden, and just being on the farm. She loved to make everyone their favorite pies. Using her sewing skills, Gladys enjoyed making things for her family. Her granddaughters would receive doll clothes and they would all enjoy pillows, blankets, and clothing that Gladys had made for them. All the grandchildren received quilts when they were born. Spending time with her family and friends was important to Gladys. Her life revolved around her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved playing cards and visiting with family, friends, and neighbors. Gladys always had a good time helping with garage sales that her granddaughter, Brenda would have.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Charles Niehaus (Julaine) of Troy, Mich., Steven Niehaus (Phyllis) of Fairmont; grandchildren, Stephanie Morton (Curtis) of Oakland Twp, Mich., Jeffery Niehaus (Katie) of Wixom, Mich., Stacie Biggerstaff (Blake) of Mitchell, S.D.; step-grandchildren, Brenda Feddersen (Thomas) of Armstrong, Iowa, Brian Schoberg (Cindy) of White Bear Lake, Minn; seven great grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, George and Margaret Steffen; husband, Cecil Niehaus; husband, Gordon Klopp; two brothers, and two sisters-in-law.
Memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church and Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center.
