Kathleen M. Hargan

POSTED: December 3, 2009

FAIRMONT - Mass of Christian Burial for Kathleen "Kay" M. Hargan, 69, of Fairmont, will be Friday, December 4, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, Minn. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be Thursday, December 3, from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service held at 8 p.m. at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, Minn. Kathleen passed away on Monday, November 30, 2009, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Kathleen Martha Heinemann was born on October 2, 1940, on a farm near Dell Rapids, S.D., the daughter of Norbert and Agnes Heinemann. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Dell Rapids, S.D., earning her diploma in 1958. Following her graduation, Kay attended Presentation College in Aberdeen, S.D. After earning her teaching certificate, Kay began teaching in Jackson, Minn., where she met H. Lon Hargan.

On June 29, 1963, Kay was united in marriage to H. Lon Hargan at the Cathedral in Sioux Falls, S.D. Together the couple made their home in Jackson and Winnebago, Minn., before moving to California. While in California, Kay was employed with Bank of America. Late 1968, Kay and Lon returned to Fairmont. Kay worked for many years with Fairmont Savings and Loan and also with First Bank. Kay worked at Hargan's Exhaust with her husband doing the office work. Kay continued to help her son, Paul after he purchased the business from his father. In addition to working at the shop, Kay also worked security at Fairmont High School.

In her spare time, Kay enjoyed quiet times spent reading and taking walks with friends. The summer time was special to Kay as she looked forward to days spent with family and friends at their cabin on Spirit Lake that she and her family built over 30 years ago. Kay treasured the memories made with her grandchildren during the countless weekends of the summer, boating, fishing, and just enjoying life on the lake. Her zest for life will be greatly missed by those that loved her and called her friend.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Lon Hargan of Fairmont; children, Penny Kent of Northrop, and Paul Hargan and his wife, Tanya of Fairmont; grandchildren, Brianna Kent, Tiara, Tanner, Koral and Kaelyn Hargan; sisters, Evelyn Gannon and her husband, Gene, Shirley Schreurs and her husband, Duane, and Jan Kritzer and her husband, Jerry, Ethel Ketelsleger and Arlene Mc Farlane; one brother, Jerry Heinemann and his wife, Joan; one brother-in-law, David Hargan and his wife, Joan; one sister-in-law, Maxine Sabatka and her husband, Lloyd; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, Norbert and Agnes; Kay is preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Heinemann and Mary Heinemann; brother, Bob Heinemann; and two brothers-in-law, Alan Ketelsleger and Russ McFarlane.
