Robert J. Brock
RINGSTED, Iowa - Services for Robert "Jim" James Brock, 83, of Ringsted, will be Monday, November 30, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church in Ringsted Iowa. Pastor Lauri Boysen will officiate. Visitation was held Sunday. Jim will be buried at the Harrison Township Cemetery in Swea City, Iowa.
Robert James Brock, the son of William and Inga (Johanesan) Brock, was born June 21, 1926, in Lakota, Iowa. He died on Friday, November 27, 2009, at the Fairmont Medical Center-Lutz Wing in Fairmont, Minn., at the age of 83.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He received his education in Swea City schools, graduating from Swea City High School in 1944.
On June 22, 1946, he was united in marriage to Elaine Brandt. The couple lived in Ledyard, Iowa and two sons were born, Robert and Tommy. In 1959, they moved to Ringsted, Iowa, and he worked for the Ringsted Implement Company. In 1964, he purchased DX Gas Station and Tank Wagon. Elaine died in 1996.
He married Jean Cummins on October 10, 1998. They enjoyed boating, camping, fishing, traveling and spent winters in Arizona. Jim was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins and the Iowa State Cyclones. He also enjoyed going to baseball and football games with his friends. He led a full life.
He was a member of United Lutheran Church in Ringsted and served on the Ringsted School Board.
Left to cherish Jim's memory are his wife, Jean, of Ringsted; two sons, Tommy Brock and Robert Brock and his wife, Karen; stepdaughter, Lois Williams; stepsons, David Cummins and his wife, Shirley; Paul Cummins; grandson, Kelley Brock and Tina; granddaughters, Kara Brock and Drew; Deb Guerdet; Lori Herzog and her husband, Brian; Kim Lippold and her husband, Eric; stepgranddaughters, Tanya Holl; Brandee Helmick and her husband, Terry; Bethany Caswell and her husband, Scott; stepgrandson, Dustin Williams and his wife, Kelsey; 13 great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; sister, Wilna Johnson; six nieces; nine nephews; great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Arlene Tobin.
He has been preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Johnson; wife, Elaine; brothers-in-law, John Tobin; Ervin Johnson and Wallace Johnson.
