Wayne L. Schroeder
FAIRMONT - Services for Wayne L. Schroeder, 79, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery in Fairmont with full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and the Martin County VFW Post 1222.
Wayne passed away Thursday afternoon, Nov. 26, 2009, at Fairmont Medical Center. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Wayne LeRoy Schroeder was born on June 5, 1930, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Herbert and Amanda (Goebel) Schroeder. He was baptized on June 23, 1930, and confirmed on April 2, 1944, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and then graduated from Fairmont High School in 1948. While in high school, Wayne worked at the Sentinel newspaper. He entered the Army-National Guard on Jan. 16, 1951, and served at Camp Rucker in Alabama. He was honorably discharged on August 2, 1952, and returned to Fairmont and worked at the Sentinel as a pressman. On June 17, 1956, Wayne was united in marriage to Norma Jean Luckow at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. In 1963, he was a founder of the Fairmont Photo Press and continued as publisher and president until his death. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was involved in the choir and on the building committee of St. Paul's School. He was also a member of the Walther League and a lifetime member of the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36. Wayne enjoyed his work at the Photo Press, classic cars and being outside and doing yardwork.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Schroeder of Fairmont; four children, Lisa Rosburg and Duane of Welcome, John Schroeder and Jennifer of Armstrong, Judy Berkland and Virgil of Phoenix, and Doug Schroeder of Sherburn; grandchildren, Matt Rosburg and Jennifer, Brian Rosburg and Jennilee, Stephanie Rosburg, Austin Berkland, Tyler Berkland; step granddaughter, Danielle Schulte; great grandchildren, Arryanna, Parker, Trevor, Elena, Spencer and Lucas Rosburg; sister, Joyce Collins and Rev. Robert Collins of South Holland, Ill.; brother, Victor Schroeder and Iva of Port Orange, Fla.; mother-in-law, Florence Luckow of Fairmont; sisters-in-law, Beth Malo and Delmer, of Fairmont, M. Kay Glaeske and Rev. Larry Glaeske of Canada, Leilani Boosinger of Dunnell; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Amanda Schroeder; daughter, Nancy Kay Schroeder; brother, Roger Schroeder; sister, Marilyn Schroeder; father-in-law, Edwin Luckow; brother-in-law, Roger Luckow.
