Peter R. Holland
JAY, Okla. - Services for Peter R. Holland, 63, of Jay, Oklahoma, formerly of Fairmont, were held Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at at Oak Chapel, Southwest City, Mo., under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home in Sapulpa, Okla. A private family burial was held on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Lakebelt Cemetery, Ceylon, Minn., with the assistance of the Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont, Minn. Peter passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, in near Jay, Okla., as a result of an automobile accident.
Peter Richard Holland was born on May 1, 1946, in Van Nuys, Calif. He was the son of Richard K. Holland of Beverly Hills, Calif., and Eva (Petersen) Holland originally of Albert Lea, Minn. Peter moved to Minnesota when he was very young. He attended school in Ceylon, Minn., then moved back to California at age 16 to live with his father.
Peter worked in California, Louisiana and Illinois. In the 1960s, he traveled with the Carson and Barnes Wild Animal Circus for two and a half years as their head maintenance man. After that, he worked as a trucker and at a chicken processing plant as well as at a concrete plant in Southwest City, Mo. Peter was a First Responder and EMT for Southwest City and enjoyed helping law enforcement whenever they needed him. The last several years, he taught himself how to program and repair computers and scanners.
Pete was especially fond of animals. He loved his little dog. Over the years, he had several horses, dogs and cats. When Peter was 6 years old, he appeared in the movie "That Brennan Girl." His grandfather, Cecil Holland was head makeup artist at MGM Studio at the time. Pete's interests were auto mechanics, electronics, computer games, hunting, shooting, carpentry and wood work, and card and board games. He like to read computer reference and how-to books. He described himself as an animal lover, computer addict and tool guy.
Pete is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Juanita Holland of Jay, Okla.; parents, Eva and Albert Harper of Fairmont, Minn.; sister, Ramona Harper of Fairmont, Minn.; three step-daughters, Connie, Kathy and Sandra; step-granddaughter, Tammy of Oklahoma; paternal aunt and uncle, Margaret Holland Sargent and Howard Sargent; many other relatives and friends.
Peter was preceded in death by his brothers, David Holland and Timothy Harper; father, Richard Holland; maternal grandparents, Alfred and Benedicte Petersen; and paternal grandparents, Cecil and Norma Holland.
