Predatory offender returning to Fairmont

FAIRMONT - A man who recently finished an 11-year prison sentence will be returning to Fairmont as a Level 3 sex offender.
John Wesley Hope Cox, 71, was convicted in 1998 for the rape of an 11-year-old girl and has other convictions against him for sexual offenses against children.
An attempt to have Cox civilly committed was dismissed last week, due to a court examiner determining that Cox's records, mostly medical, indicated Cox was "not highly likely to engage in future acts of harmful sexual conduct."
He was being held at the correctional facility in Faribault upon the arrangement of a release plan.
Cox is now scheduled to be released on Nov. 30 and will be residing in the first block of Downtown Plaza.
However, Cox is still considered on probation until 2019, according to information on the Minnesota Department of Corrections Web site.
A public notification meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Martin County Library basement meeting room. #
