ODIN - A Celebration of Life Services for Arvid P. Laingen, 82, of rural Odin, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Odin, Minn., with Pastor Carla Reierson officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery with full military honors by the Donald V. Larson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9607 of Butterfield, Minn.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont, Minn., and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Arvid Paul Laingen was born on March 17, 1927, to P.K. and Mabel (Eng) Laingen on the family farm in Odin Township, Watonwan County, Minn. He attended rural country school in Odin township until graduating from Butterfield High School in 1945 where he was the class valedictorian. On April 23, 1946, he entered the Army Air Force, serving until his honorable discharge on Oct. 22, 1947. On Aug. 7, 1949, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Matson at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James, Minn. After their marriage, they lived on a farm in Odin Township. In 1975, he purchased the Odin Feed Mill and operated it until his retirement in 1992. Lorraine died on Aug. 30, 2004.
Arvid died peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 17, 2009, at the Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth in Rochester, Minn., under the loving care of its staff at the age of 82 years.
Survivors include son, Curt Laingen of Shepherd, Mont.; daughter, Karen Sturm and her husband, Chuck of Zumbrota, Minn.; two grandchildren; Nate Sturm of Rochester and Bri Sturm of Minneapolis; brother, Bruce Laingen and his wife, Penne of Bethesda, Md; sister, Norma Marsh of Hasting, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Mavis Matson of Fairmont, Minn., and Evelyn Larson of St. James, Minn.; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Arvid was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lorraine, granddaughter, Mackenzie; brother, Ken Laingen, brothers-in-law, Grant Matson, Samuel Matson, and Raymond Noren; sister-in-law, Alice Noren; and other relatives.
