AARP Tax-Aide is the nation's largest volunteer-run free tax assistance service for low and middle income taxpayers with special attention to those age 60 and older.
This program was started in Fairmont some 25 years ago. The original volunteers have built this program to the point where we serve over 500 low-income taxpayers each year. Due to age or disability, some volunteers have to retire so this group is looking for new volunteers to continue this program.
Volunteers are trained in January on the computers set up by AARP at the Fairmont Public Library and then meet once or twice a week through the tax season to assist local people.
