FAIRMONT - Memorial service for Yutaka "Bruce" Nishimori, 60, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial of ashes will follow with full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion and the Martin County VFW Post 1222 at Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont.
Bruce passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at the Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Monday, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.
Yutaka Bruce Nishimori was born on April 24, 1949, in Santa Maria, Calif., the son of Tadinori and Kimiye Nishimori. He grew up in Santa Maria and graduated from high school in 1967. He also attended Santa Barbara Business College. Bruce entered the U.S. Air Force in October 1968 and served three tours during the Vietnam War and was also a prisoner of war. He was honorably discharged in June 1983. Bruce taught a computer class at Santa Barbara Business College, where he met Debra Hunt. They were united in marriage on June 4, 1994. They lived in Santa Maria and then moved to Fairmont in June 2002. While in Fairmont, Bruce worked at the Bike Shop for a couple of years.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Nishimori of Fairmont; four children, Nichelle "Nikki" Hunt, Cody Nishimori, Trevor Nishimori, and Brianna Nishimori, all of Fairmont; one sister, Judi Ellis and her husband, Richard, of Santa Maria; aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Schiller and one brother, Cliff Nishimori.
