Verna L. Mino
SWEA CITY, Iowa - Services for Verna L. Mino, 88, of Armstrong will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Swea City, with Pastor Todd Hartsock officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Township Cemetery, Swea City.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel, Swea City.
Verna Leone (O'Neal) Mino, the daughter of Vernie and Hazel (Nelson) O'Neal, was born Dec. 7, 1920, in Sloan, Iowa. She died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa, at the age of 88.
She received her education in the Sloan schools, graduating from Sloan High School. Then she attended Wayne State University for four years, graduating there with a bachelor's degree in teaching.
On March 14, 1946, Verna was united in marriage to Harold Everett Mino in Sloan. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Swea City, where they raised their family and Verna taught school for 24 years. Harold died in September of 1971. In her leisure time, she enjoyed knitting.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Swea City and was also active in the church ladies circle.
Left to cherish her children, Margaret Oppedal and her husband, Jim of Belleville, Iowa; Ramona Perdue of Swea City; Caren Catron and her husband, Curt of Chariton, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Verna has been preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Marlene; son-in-law, Larry Perdue; her parents; and sister, Nola Kelley.
