Carroll H. Barvels

FAIRMONT - Funeral services for Carroll H. Barvels, 84, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial will be held following the service in the Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at the Lakeview Funeral Home. Carroll passed away on Friday, June 26, 2009, at the Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont, Minn.

Carroll Henry Barvels was born on January 25, 1925, on a farm in Rutland, Township, Martin County, MN, the son of Jacob and Anna (Kosbab) Barvels. As a young boy, Carroll attended country school in Rutland Township. After completing country school, Carroll began helping at home on the farm and helped to manage the farms after his older brothers went off to war.

Carroll loved life on the farm and took great pride in his Brown Swiss Dairy Cattle. He also had a team of Draft Horses that he frequently took to shows. Carroll later moved to Cosmos, Minn., and later Perham, Minn., where he also farmed before retiring from farming and moving back to Fairmont. When he returned, Carroll worked for Rosen's Livestock where he drove truck for a number of years.

In his spare time, Carroll enjoyed spending time checking on the area crops and helping area farmers. He was an avid outdoors man and cherished time spent hunting and fishing. Carroll also looked forward to the annual family 4th of July Party that was held out at the farm. He will be greatly missed by those that loved him and called him friend.

Left to cherish his memory is his sister-in-law, Marjorie (Suter) Barvels of Fergus Falls, Minn.; nieces and nephews, Barb (Barvels) Malo and husband, Mervin of Fairmont, Minn.; Gene Barvels and wife, Ursula of Underwood, Minn.; Garry Barvels and wife, Mary of St. Charles, Minn.; Ruth (Barvels) Spoo and husband, Duane of Deer Park, Wis.; Nancy (Barvels) Spoo and husband, Bruce of Emerald, Wis.; Kevin Barvels and wife, Sheryl of Crookston, Minn.; Jerome Barvels and wife, Marcille of Lake Lillian, Minn.; Joel barvels and wife, Venessa of Stillwater, Minn.; Betty (Ruffridge) Ford and husband, Wes of Decorah, Iowa; Marcelene (Buchmeier) Meyer and husband, Marland of Fairmont, Minn.; Henry Buchmeier and wife, Darlene of Fairmont, Minn.; Wanda (Weidenbach) Hegerle and husband, Ron of Fairmont, Minn.; and Irene (Theobald) Buchmeier of Fairmont, Minn.; as well as many extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jacob and Anna, Carroll is preceded in death by his siblings, Ella Buchmeier, Esther Ruffridge, Art Barvels, Lydia Barvels, Edna Weidenbach, Roy Barvels, and Vera Barvels; and nieces and nephews, Viva (Barvels) Oven, Joyce (Buchmeier) Probst, Bonnie (Ruffridge) Hugan, Roy Buchmeier, and Harold Buchmeier.
